  • Author: Maggie
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

Experience the delightful combination of flaky puff pastry filled with savory ham and melted cheese. This classic Irish-inspired treat is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a satisfying snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • 1 cup diced or thinly sliced ham
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Cheddar, Swiss, or a blend)
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Optional: sautéed onions, mushrooms, or a smear of mustard for added flavor

Instructions

  • Prepare the Ingredients:

    • Thaw puff pastry sheets according to package instructions.
    • Dice or thinly slice the ham.
    • Grate or slice the cheese.
    • If using optional fillers like onions or mushrooms, sauté them until softened.
  • Create the Pastry Base:

    • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets to smooth any creases.
    • Cut each sheet into 4–5 inch squares.
  • Assemble the Jambons:

    • Place a portion of ham and cheese (and any optional fillers) in the center of each pastry square.
    • Fold the corners of the pastry over the filling, pressing gently to seal.
    • Transfer the assembled pastries to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Apply Egg Wash:

    • Brush the tops of the pastries with the beaten egg mixture to ensure a golden finish.
  • Bake:

    • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven.
    • Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
    • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a gourmet twist, consider adding a smear of Dijon mustard or a sprinkle of fresh herbs inside the pastries.
  • Leftover jambons can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes to restore crispness.
